Women have long been a formidable force in the world of horror movies, even if their contributions consistently get overlooked in favor of their male counterparts. There are numerous classic horror films directed by women, from the early psychological horror of Ida Lupino’s The Hitch-Hiker, to favorites like Mary Lambert’s Pet Sematary and Mary Harron’s American Psycho, to name just a few. In more recent years, there has been a boom of women filmmakers, including Jennifer Kent, director of The Babadook, Julia Ducournau, the woman behind Titane, and Ana Lily Amirpour, who directed A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.
