EXCLUSIVE: Bobby Deol Says Dharmendra Gave Up Zanjeer After Relative Warned, “You’ll See My Dead Body”

Navigating the world of showbiz isn’t always glitz and glam, especially when personal relationships start to blur the lines with professional choices. Recently, in a candid chat with Instant Bollywood Bobby Deol shared some heartfelt insights about his father, the legendary Dharmendra, and how tough it was for him to draw that line.

When asked whether it’s difficult to separate the professional from the personal in the film industry, Bobby didn’t hesitate. Instead of talking about himself, he dove into stories from his father’s life. And honestly, they’re eye-opening.

“Dad did a lot of favors like that. There was this movie, Satyakam, and Dad did it for my aunt’s husband. At that time, they were facing some financial problems, so Dad gave them around 25 lakhs. I’m not sure if it was exactly 25 lakhs or something else, but think about it – in the ’60s, 25 lakhs was a big deal!”

It’s not every day you hear about such generosity. Bobby made it clear that Dharmendra has always been someone who looked out for the people he cared about, even if it meant making huge sacrifices.

He went on to share another surprising story about a film his dad had to let go of. “Then there was the movie Zanjeer – Dad wanted to do that one too, but his cousin sister had some issues with Prakash Mehra.”

What happened next was straight out of a dramatic script.

“One day, she came home and told my dad, ‘I swear, if you take this role, you’ll see my dead body.’ So, my dad had to pass on that project. It’s been tough on him.”

Imagine having to let go of a career-changing role because of family pressure. It just shows how complicated things can get behind the scenes.

Bobby’s stories highlight the softer, more emotional side of a superstar who was not just an actor, but a deeply loyal and caring family man. In an industry where ambition often comes first, Dharmendra’s choices remind us that sometimes, heart matters more than the hustle.
