After nearly 17 years of delays and developments, Dostana 2 is finally back on track with Vikrant Massey and Lakshya.
Karan Johar is reportedly gearing up to begin filming the much-anticipated sequel by late 2025, with shooting schedules planned both in India and overseas.
According to sources, “Karan Johar is giving the Dostana franchise a fresh twist with two solid performers—Vikrant Massey and Lakshya. The script is packed with humor, and the team is excited to roll cameras by the end of next year,” the source shared.
The source added that Dostana 2 will be directed by Shauna Gautam, known for her work on Nadaniyaan. “It’s a breezy, feel-good entertainer, and Karan has entrusted Shauna with the directorial reins,” the source said. Unlike the original film which hit theatres, Dostana 2 is slated for a direct-to-digital release on Netflix.
“The decision to cast Vikrant and Lakshya goes beyond just their acting chops—it’s also about pushing for inclusive and authentic representation,” the source shared. “Karan envisions Dostana 2 as a film that blends heart, humor, and cultural relevance.”
Designed as an OTT original, the project has generated immense excitement among everyone involved. “In Dostana 2, Vikrant Massey and Lakshya portray a gay couple,” the source added. “The team is also in talks with a young actress from the current generation to join the cast.”
