Over the course of a 22-minute episode, Abbott Elementary has the power to evoke both laughter and tears, taking audiences on an emotional journey while still managing to keep things light and bright. It’s a tough combination to nail, but creator and star Quinta Brunson and the rest of the team have mastered the mix for four — soon to be five — seasons. On the other hand, FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is less heartfelt but more raucously laugh-out-loud. But when the two blended in the first part of a two-episode crossover, Abbott brought some of that heart to the Sunny crew.
