HGTV announced a new show with Queer Eye‘s Bobby Berk after coming under scrutiny for canceling five existing programs.
The network confirmed on Thursday, July 10, that Berk, 43, will star in Junk or Jackpot? later this year. The six-episode season will follow Berk as he is tasked with helping homeowners decide whether to keep their unique collections — including superhero figurines or rare puppets and dolls — or sell them in order to renovate their outdated homes.
Berk, who rose to fame on Netflix’s Queer Eye before announcing his exit in 2023, will also provide support for each homeowner so they can give their homes a dream makeover. (Berk’s project was announced one day after Netflix confirmed Queer Eye will end with its 10th season, currently in production.)
“I’m excited to help passionate people sift through their cherished items and give them reimagined spaces that will best honor what they hold dear,” Berk said in a press release, while executive producer John Cena added, “The idea for Junk or Jackpot? was born out of a conversation I had with friends. People often wonder if their collections are trash or treasure, and this show will help them find out.”
Did HGTV Reveal Which Shows Are Safe — And Which Aren’t — Amid Cancellations?
HGTV has been making headlines for major scheduling changes at the network, resulting in the cancellation of five shows: Battle on the Beach, Farmhouse Fixer, Married to Real Estate, Bargain Block and Izzy Does It.
In addition to Berk’s show, HGTV’s website featured a page on Thursday that highlighted shows currently seeking participants. There are 11 shows on the page, suggesting those programs will be returning for further seasons. The list includes a new Property Brothers show, a new season of Christina on the Coast, a third season of Down Home Fab With Chelsea and Cole DeBoer, another season of My Lottery Dream Home and House Hunters.
With numerous shows being pulled off the air, Rehab Addict’s Nicole Curtis spoke out about her program suddenly being unavailable to view.
“I made the executive decision to shelf the rest of our new shows until fall. I appreciate your support and understanding for the late notice,” Curtis, 48, wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, July 8. “It’s just a lot of hours (my hours) to get a show on air and we (my family + me) thought – why are we giving up summer when we have the ability to do this in the fall?”
HGTV’s Biggest Breakout Stars: Chip and Joanna Gaines and More
Rehab Addict‘s latest season premiered on June 24 before being replaced by My Lottery Dream Home after only two episodes.
“Thank you to the powers at be at HGTV that were receptive to our idea. … Without a doubt, I, truly, am beyond happy with this decision as I just spent the day with a phone that was dead and had no worries about it,” Curtis continued. “They are airing Lottery Dream Home in my place.”
She concluded: “Fun fact, [Lottery Dream Home host] David Bromstad was my pregnancy beach buddy as we were filming and living next to each other in Gulf Shores, Alabama, for Beach Flip. … So, don’t be spreading rumors that he replaced me — I chose it.”
